A Journal – Your Key To Prosperity
On my journey through life I slowly discovered that most successful people keep a journal of some description. At first I didn’t notice and, once I did, I couldn’t figure out why.
But really, it’s simple and it has to do with the difference between successful people, and everyone else. Successful people use journals because it helps them to remember things. Some small things that can make a few pennies difference here and there, and the bigger, life-changing stuff. It all goes into their journal. Succesful people are also happy to share their knowledge with the rest of us and journal notes help to recall the information and can act as a legacy after we’re gone. Where would we be today without the tremendous legacy of Leonardo da Vinci’s journals?
Any kind of information can be stored in your journal; the kind of “eureka moment” that wakes you from a dream at 3am with a brilliant idea, or some notes from a conversation with a mentor who shares some “useful stuff” that we might use next week or next month, or who knows when? Write it all in your journal then you’ll not forget it.
I like using 2 journals but I don’t recommend you use more than this. This is because I have one “pocket sized” notebook and a larger, more fancy journal for more formal thoughts and bigger plans. Mostly I use my pocket one daily for all kinds of interesting thoughts and observations, outline plans of things to do and so on. When I get the chance I make them neater and more structured then I transfer them to the bigger book. Don’t write things like your shopping lists in them, though! These journals are for the important stuff!
As an example, this is what my current pocket jounal looks like right now
But it doesn’t matter what kind of book you use as a journal, the real gold dust isn’t in the fancy leather bound covers or even in the pages inside, it’s contained within the words you add into those simple, blank pages. A spiral bound “Reporters Notebook” will do just as well to start as something unaffordably luxurious.
Just as in all things in life, the biggest part of success is just that we start with whatever tools we have to hand. There’s no need to wait till we have a better journal or even better ideas: start NOW and the rest will show itself to us as we go along.
Do you use a journal? What differences has it made to your business life? Any little gold nuggets in there you haven’t acted on yet? Tell me about it in the comments!
