The Reason “Why”, Self Belief And Your Priorities
I was just talking this week with a couple of friends who are both desparately trying to get out of the ruts in their lives. One is quite a negative lady who, incidentally, has a razor-sharp sense of humour and a very eloquent turn of phrase. She was commenting about how bad it was at work, how she was underpaid despite doing the work of 2 people, and how she’d tried to move on but couldn’t. Her comment was that nobody could do a job they love, and everybody MUST by definition be doing work they hated; it was one of life’s trials we all have to endure.
The other lady was saying that eveybody is the product of some kind of “pre-programming” before birth, and that we can never change that. I respectfully suggested that her statement wasn’t correct, and that I had first hand experience of changing myself, my beliefs, my attitude and most of all my financial freedom. It’s very easy to become jaded in our outlook on life and pick up negative thinking traits from family, friends and loved ones. What we are as a person, is the product of what we have ALLOWED ourselves to absorb from those we interact with daily. You only have to look at any child’s early years to see this – on the maternity ward in hosiptal some babies cry louder and longer than others – they are LEARNING that if they out-cry the other babies they will get more attention.
And, a little later in life, if they are overheard swearing or using bad language somebody will always either ask who they learned that from, or suggest that they heard their friends using those words in the school yard. See? LEARNED behaviour.
Despite the differences, both of these friends are suffering from the same issues, which basically stem from a massive lack of belief in their ability to change their circumstances. They are actually in a rut; they have enough income to get by – sort of. They have enough going on in their lives to keep them “busy” and to pressurise them into thinking they have no spare time or quality of life – sort of, but not enough of anything to be truly enjoying the experience of life.
When I spoke with friend number one, I asked if she had ever considered creating her own income. She said she had thought about it a few times but couldn’t find anything she could do and didn’t have time anyway. I asked if she had any hobbies, or anything she loves to do, and suggested she find a way to monetize doing something in that field. Miraculaously, she agreed there was something that she loved doing but she didn’t know how to get started, and her friends all told her she’d never make it anyway so she didn’t look any further!
Friend number two, on the other hand, is still not sure whether she can change her “programming” or not, despite knowing me and often commenting to both of us how we have transformed our lives in the past few years! I guess the next step is to get her to agree or acknowledge that we have done just what she says cannot be done!
Getting back to friend number one for a minute, once she had recognised that we can change ourselves and mould our futures just how we want them, I commented that one major reason she wasn’t making progress was because she had stopped trying! She knows my passion is in teaching people how to make money online and that’s what I do as an Internet Marketer so I suggested that, for the parts of her business plan she didn’t have enough knowledge about, she should consider finding others who are doing exactly that successfully, right now, and discovering how they did what they are doing so successfully, then copy their methods.
I also suggested to both friends that they really need to develop their goals, dream some BIG dreams and dig very deep to discover and plant firmly in their minds the REAL reason WHY they are doing what they’re doing because there are no two ways about it, there are going to be days when you feel like giving up, but the biggest reason you continue on – and the prime reason friend number one was NOT earning her own income right now, was because their reasons “WHY” weren’t powerful enough.
Your reason “WHY” WILL propel you forward through all adversity IF it’s one that you’re so passionate about that when you think about it, it hurts!
So; what’s your reason “WHY” and what are you doing about developing and honing it, learning how to use it as a tool for success rather than letting it mire you in self doubt and hold you back?
Hit me up in the comments and let me know what you think. Thanks for reading this far!
