Weed Out Timewasters The Easy Way! Concentrate On The People Who Respect You Enough To Pay You
Today I slashed 1,000 people from my Twitter list. Yikes! that sounds a bit drastic, but here’s the thing – I build my business using Twitter and so long as you’re not a spammer or a hater (I got my first one of those a while ago! great stuff lol) I will always follow you back. I personally think it’s the polite thing to do and I like to interact with people, so fair’s fair.
I just don’t “get” the celebs and so-called business gurus who don’t follow back. OK, in the early days your stream would be full and you’d miss the people’s tweets who you really wanted to interact with, but since Twitter gave us lists that excuse won’t wash any more. It feels to me at least, much more friendly if you follow back, and I don’t know about you but if you’re trying to make money online it doesn’t make any sense to alienate your possible customers and give them the “cold shoulder”.
Anyway – 1,000 slashed fom my list this afternoon. Brave? No, I don’t think so. All of those I selected for deletion were either dormant accounts where nothing had been posted for a while, or were people who hadn’t followed ne back so they weren’t viable prospects either for my business or to have a good old fashioned conversation with.
The main reason I did this was because I’d reached a point where I couldn’t follow any more people until I’d restored my followers – to – following ratio to a more normal level, and as I had a couple of hundred people who were following me this was preventing me from following back, effectively giving me a bad image so I had to bring that scenario to an end quickly. Reputations which take years to build can be destroyed in minutes and it allowed me to focus on the more relevant people!
In a similar vein, you may have noticed that I give away a killer little e-book (if you didn’t notice, it’s just over to your right ==>>>> go on, grab it now! ) for free, and yet the number of people who download it but take no action with it is staggering! This little book can make you a serious income, all the info you need to do it is in there. It is, in effect, a step-by-step blueprint to dominate Twitter and make money online – all for free and with no obligation. I had considered charging a small token amount for this, say $1 or so but famous ex-Dragons Den business mentor Rachel Elnaugh mentioned in her blog that she can’t even give away a business mentoring trial at one pound although her email inbox is full every day of people asking for her help, so my little e-book remains free!
As Rachel so rightly states, it’s down to respect. I really don’t mind people downloading my free e-book, and I also don’t mind people asking questions about making money online. But I would hope that if they respected my expertise enough to ask for my advice, that sooner or later they would buy one of my relevant products. Just for the sake of goodwill if nothing else and it lets me know who the serious people are who I should be spending the majority of my time helping!
Im sure most other internet marketers and bloggers feel the same!
So, hit me up in the comments and let me know – follow back or not? Give away freebies or not? What is your experience, I’m keen to find out!
Thanks
Allan
